The Roots of Sophia Selene Yoga
The story of Sophia Selene Yoga began with one clear intention — to create a yoga experience that is inviting, joint-safe, intimate, and deeply respectful of every mindful-being and nervous system in the room.
Our space is an intimate, self-love and mindfulness studio that welcomes beautiful souls of all skin tones, cultural backgrounds, genders, experience levels, and body types. We are a mindfulness studio first — a space where Sophia promotes and supports physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness for all.
In addition to its grounding, trauma-informed approach, Sophia Selene Yoga also honors the subtle, spiritual rhythms of nature — especially the phases and cycles of the moon. Sophia specifically weaves lunar awareness into her offerings, using the moon’s changing light as a gentle guide for rest, reflection, release, and renewal.
Sophia personally offers classes and workshops that honor the spirituality of the moon’s cycles and explore how these rhythms mirror the lived experiences to us as feminine beings. Certain offerings are specifically designed to help feminine-beings connect their menstrual cycles with the phases of the moon, using mindful movement, ritual, and education to support a deeper relationship with their bodies, their timing, and their own inner tides.
Sophia Selene Yoga was specifically created to share yoga’s profound benefits with our local community as both a physical and spiritual practice, and as a space that honors yoga’s many origins and roots in both the traditions of ancient India and even those of ancient Kemet (Egypt) — an early style of yoga that many scholars believe predates Indian yoga by thousands of years.
Sophia originally trained in Indian yoga lineages and now intentionally chooses to honor and weave both Indian and ancient Kemetic influences into her own diverse and evolving practice and what she shares with students.
Instead of rushed, one-size-fits-all classes — Sophia’s classes are built for students who want time to arrive, breathe, and actually feel the movement and spiritual practice working in their bodies. Classes are designed to protect joints, honor medical realities, and make space for rest, so students can relax into a world of yoga and self-care — where their inner divine light returns.
Sophia Selene created this studio with a clear standard — yoga should be safe, welcoming, and spiritually grounded. That vision has grown into a developing studio reality — a quiet, intimate, inviting space where students from all walks of life are connected to one on one, and treated like whole people, not headcount. A space where we can build community, meet new friends, stay connected, and practice mindful movement together. That is the heart of Sophia Selene Yoga — and her commitment that guides every class, workshop, and offering she hosts.
